The Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra invites you to an evening of traditional holiday favorites and winter classics. As part of the orchestra’s 60th season theme Scenes and Dreams the orchestra will play I’ll Be Home For Christmas and I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas. The eight day Celebration of Light will be highlighted in the Festive Sounds of Hanukah. The orchestra will also take you on three very different musical sleigh rides performing Anderson’s classic Sleigh Ride, Prokofiev’s Troika, from the Lt. Kije Suite and Dreams of a Winter Journey, the first movement of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 1. Rounding out the concert will be a holiday sing-along, and other familiar songs of the season. A unique selection to this concert will be Malcolm Arnold’s Commonwealth Christmas Overture to commemorate the first televised Christmas Message by Queen Elizabeth II in 1957.
