Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra Concerts

Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the Upper St. Clair High School Theater - 7:30 pm

That's Prague-ress

The young dancers of the Ballet Academy of Pittsburgh will return to our stage to dance selections from the classic ballet Coppelia as well as Dvorak’s Prague Waltzes. Capping this program is Dvorak’s Sixth Symphony, full of fire and Czech folk rhythms.

Saturday, December 17, 2016 at the Upper St. Clair High School Theater - 7:30 pm

Czech the Halls

In addition to many holiday favorites, the December concert will feature concertmaster Jennifer Sternick playing a lyrical Beethoven Romanze.  For Dvorak's lovely setting of Psalm 149, the orchestra will be joined by the Masterworks Concert Chorale under the direction of Snezana Lazich.

Monday, February 20, 2017 at Carnegie Music Hall in Carnegie, PA - 7:00 pm

The PCO has been invited to perform the annual President’s Day concert at the historic Carnegie Music Hall in Carnegie, PA,  formerly the home of the orchestra. The famous Largo from Dvorak's New World Symphony will appear on this program, and the orchestra will play patriotic music including Aaron Copland’s Lincoln Portrait with narration by internationally-renowned mezzo-soprano (and Pittsburgh native) Marianne Cornetti

Saturday, April 1, 2017 at the Upper St. Clair High School Theater - 7:30 pm
The Young Artists Competition concert is always a favorite for both audience and the orchestra. As a warm up for the performance of our competition winners, we will play a Dvorak rarity: his American Suite – possibly the last piece he finished during his time living in the US (1892-95), and the South Hills Junior Orchestra will perform some American music.

Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the Upper St. Clair High School Theater - 7:30 pm

Strings Into Spring

Our spring concert features cellist Paige Riggs who will perform Haydn's Cello Concerto in C.
The season finale includes one of Dvorak’s best-loved works: the Eighth Symphony. It is unsurpassed in depth of feeling and gorgeous orchestral sounds.  Plus, our commitment to creating great musical opportunities for young people will find us sharing the stage with members of the Pittsburgh Youth Philharmonic for a rousing performance of Wagner’s Die Meistersinger Overture!

Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra's 2016-2017 season of classical music. The five concerts in our series  put a bright spotlight on the music of one the world’s favorite composers: Antonin Dvorak.
